The 90-day Dubai job hunt, planned like an operations problem

By Prudhvi Polavarapu, supply chain and e-commerce operations leader in Dubai

I have run operations where 5,000 orders a day had to reach doors on time, and I will tell you a secret: a job hunt is a smaller version of exactly the same machine. It has a pipeline, conversion stages, exception handling and a daily cadence. Machines like that can be run well or run badly. Here is the 90-day build I would run if I landed in Dubai tomorrow with nothing.

The pipeline math, before anything else

Know your numbers before you start, because they will keep you sane in week five. A realistic funnel looks like this: 50 target companies gives you roughly 40 reachable humans, which yields perhaps 12 real conversations, which converts to 5 or 6 interviews, which produces 1 or 2 offers. Every stage has a conversion rate, and every rate can be improved once you can see it. People who quit in month two usually had a working funnel and no visibility into it, so the silence felt like failure while the machine was actually filling.

The candidates who win treat silence as a conversion stage, not a verdict.

Days 1 to 15: build the machine before you run it

Do not apply to a single role yet. Build the assets that everything else depends on. One CV, two pages, every line carrying a number. A LinkedIn profile whose first sentence says what you run and at what scale. The 50-company target list with named team leads, researched properly. And a tracker with five columns: company, contact, last touch, next step, stage. That tracker is your WMS. The hunt runs on it, or it does not run.

Days 16 to 45: volume with aim

Now run the cadence: ten new conversations started per week. Messages to named people, referral asks to old colleagues, advice requests to anyone one step from a decision maker. Posted roles get applications too, but portals are your catch-net, never your strategy. Follow up once after five working days, politely, like a professional chasing a shipment, because in my world we never let an exception age without an owner. Your pipeline deserves the same respect.

Review yourself every Friday on exactly three numbers: conversations started, interviews booked, referrals earned. High conversations with low interviews means your pitch is wrong. No conversations at all means your profile is wrong. Interviews without offers means your story needs rebuilding. Fix the stage that leaks. This is funnel repair, not soul-searching.

Days 46 to 75: convert like it is a business review

Interviews are operations reviews in disguise, so prepare like an operator. Study the company's market. Name the three problems their operation almost certainly has, because at their stage everyone has them. Bring one page showing how you solved those exact problems before, numbers attached. Every interviewer, whatever they ask out loud, is silently asking one thing: will my life get easier if I hire this person? Answer that question out loud before you leave the room.

Days 76 to 90: close and choose like an operator

Offers in Dubai move fast and expire fast. Negotiate the full package respectfully: salary, housing, flights, insurance, notice period. Then decide with cold clarity: your first Dubai job does not need to be the dream. It needs to put you inside the market, building a local track record and local references, because your second job here gets negotiated from strength. The door matters more than the room behind it.

DO THIS TODAY

Ninety days of this cadence beats two years of scattered applying, and I have watched both versions play out more times than I can count. The market rewards the organised. Be the organised one.
